Stitches Quilt Shop opened on Main Street in McPherson, Kansas, in November of 2010, and has served area quilters and sewers ever since. Owner Janet Yowell says she had the good fortune to work for another local sewing establishment, the Button Hole, in McPherson for 10 years, and describes it as “the very finest and largest quilt shop around.” Through those years, she learned the many aspects of retail business while purchasing the fabrics, books, patterns and quilting notions for the store. She also worked at displaying quilts made by many of the Button Hole’s customers.
When the Button Hole closed in 2009, Janet found she missed the many people with whom she worked and assisted. It was the many quilting friends she made that lead her to open Stitches Quilt Shop just under two years later. “I receive so much from helping quilters, new and old, in selecting fabrics, and seeing them achieve their goals,” Janet said.
Stitches Quilt Shop boasts an inventory of nearly 2100 bolts of the best quality, 100% cotton fabrics, along with all the notions, tools and supplies quilters may need in the quilting process. The shop also offers an open sew in its large, on-site classroom, which allows quilters to learn, share and enjoy each others’ company while working on their projects. Janet knows that her classes don’t always fit into her customer’s busy schedules, and encourages interested people to call and set up a class to fit their day and time.
